Anthony Robin Melville
Born Liverpool, England 16.05.1952. Father a Scot, mother from London. Has lived in Finland almost continuously since 1975.
Finnish citizen.

Lecturer in English for Vocational Purposes at the University of Jyväskylä 1979-2016. Established own small communications business in 1981. Tasks include Finnish to English translations and voiceovers for company videos, plus radio and TV work. Rally Finland English language commentator for Radio Central Finland since 1992. First TV appearance in the short-lived light entertainment series ‘Lievä Kuume’ [‘Slight Fever’] (YLE TV2 1993). Subsequently seen as a TV chef in a 12-part food and drink show ‘Tony’s Bistro’ (YLE TV2 1995)and as presenter and co-producer of a 2-part travel and cuisine programme ‘Tony’s picnic hamper – Ireland’ (YLE TV2 1996). Appeared most recently as co-host of a 19-part travel series made exclusively on location in Finland ‘Tales about Finland’ (MTV 3 2003). Has also produced radio and TV ads for SDP candidates contesting the European Parliament, Finnish parliamentary and local government elections.
Creative Director of Raparperi, Finland’s national centre for food culture, April-November 2010. Started own YouTube channel ‘Big on Wine’ in November 2016.

MA degree from the University of Cambridge (1971-75) majoring in German and French, awarded DAAD scholarship to the University of Freiburg, Federal Republic of Germany (1973-74), studied for a PGCE in EFL from the Institute of Education, London (1978-79) plus an MA Language and Literature in Education from the same institution (1987-88).

Candidate already in the European Parliament elections of 1999 (6 239 votes, 38th out of 140 candidates). Active supporter of Tarja Halonen in the 2000 Finnish presidential election and of Martti Ahtisaari in 1994. Member of Finland’s Social Democratic Party since February 1996.
